CLEMSON STUDENT Sarah Campbell is Now Charged with a Felony for Filing a False Report.
News 4 Investigates has obtained new records in the case of the Clemson University student, Sarah Campbell who has been charged with a felony for filing a false report. The documents show a timeline of communication between Clemson University police and the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office in the early morning of January 27. In an exclusive interview in March, Campbell said she did not lie to investigators. She told officials that a man she did not know sexually assaulted her at an off-campus fraternity house in Oconee County in January. In late February, Oconee County deputies arrested Campbell and said that their investigation revealed that what happened was consensual and Campbell had not been truthful. Under South Carolina law, a person who falsely reports a felony is charged with a felony. If convicted, the penalty for false reporting of a felony is imprisonment for up to five years, or fines of up to $1,000 or both.
