U.S. Offers Funding to Anyone Who Can Solve College Responses to Sexual Assault

Some schools take a so-called victim-centered approach, declining to expel accused rapists in attempts to do both victims and the accused justice. At the other end of the spectrum have been calls for all such reports to be referred immediately to police, cutting college administrators out of the process entirely.

Despite the variety of approaches, there has been little evidence about which are more effective and no broad consensus on what’s best for students. While such a consensus is perhaps still far off, the government grants could add an evidence-based point of view to an emotional and wide-ranging national discussion.
